Comparison sensitivity and specificity temporal artery temperature measurement with axillary and nasopharyngeal methods in adult

      Aims: temporal artery thermometers (TAT) of new tools for measuring body temperature, few studies have been conducted to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of thermometers and is still uncertain accuracy and reliability this thermometers.This study to evaluate the accuracy of the two methods of measuring body temperature by the thermometer axillary and temporal artery compared with nasopharynx thermometer was carried out to the  patients in Bushehr hospital in 1394.        Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was done on 200 patients admitted in Bushehr hospital in 1394 and Sampling was available. In all cases with the permission in writing, temperature was measured with three methods: nasopharynx, axillary and temporal artery left and right, and then were recorded characteristics in the Check list. The data was analyzed by spss Version 21 and statistical analysis of covariance, chi-square test, ROC curve and paired t-test .         finding: The sensitivity , specificity and  accuracy of the temporal  artery method to determine fever cut point 37.7 ° C is respectively, 88%  and 85% and 86% ; as well as sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the axillary  method to determining fever cut point 37.6 ° C,respectively, 88.8% and 94.5% and 93.5%. In this study, the kappa showed agreement between the two methods axillary and temporal artery.         conclusions: The temporal  artery method compared with axillary and nasopharenx is accurate, fast, comfortable and safe for the patient and the most appropriate cur point in this methods is 37.7ºc for detect fever.
